Our farm features an on site complete processing facility from in field harvesting using a Wolf-Lochmann Automatic bine picker and wagon, to on-site precision drying, baling, cold storage, pelletizing and inert-gas flushed mylar packaging.
Our hops are not only precision grown here on PEI, they are processing and packaged to the highest standard.
Our On site Processing
-
Harvesting
Our custom mounted Wolf-Lochmann bine picker and wagon allows a single operator and one helper the ability to harvest bine while driving down the rows. This means the bines never touch the ground and are harvested and delivered to the processing facility within minutes to preserve as much oil and resin content as possible.
-
Picking and transport
Our refurbished WHE180 bine pickers, and covered, no-touch conveyer systems (designed and built by Grandview Welding) allow hops to be picked from bines and transported quickly to our multilevel dryer within minutes of arriving at our facility.
-
Drying
Our custom designed multi-level dryer allows for commercial precision drying of our hops from their natural state down to 9% moisture with rigid control of temperature and air flow. This allows the hops oils and resins to be preserved while the hops are dried in preparation for baling, storage and subsequent processing.
-
Baling
After drying the hops and whisked away to the Reith RB60 Bale, which compresses the hops down into 90kg bales, perfectly pressed everytime to minimize the stress on the resins and oils while maximizing the efficiency of storage.
-
Pelleting and Packaging
When ordered, our hops are pelleted fresh for our brewing partners using our onsite pelleting mill using protocols honed over the last 7 years of processing. These variety specific protocols allow us to maximize the quality of our noble hops to improve its performance in your beer. Once ready, the freshly pelleted hops are then nitrogen flushed and packaged in mylar bags - and ready to make your beer not only seriously local - but of the highest quality!
-
Aging
Using a process that has been refined continually since 2015, using a custom build European oak cabinet, the highest quality Hops, chosen by variety and lot for idealized characteristics for aging, are carefully aged until desired aroma and chemical targets are hit.
This process created entirely unique characteristics of the aged hops - offering your traditional European and mixed fermentation beer an added depth of complexity that, in our opinion, cannot be achieved by any other means.
